Turbine is looking for an experienced software engineer to assume leadership responsibilities for the ongoing development of Turbine’s award winning MMOG engine. This position will coordinate the daily activities of a skilled team of software engineers by performing such duties as project management, task prioritization, risk assessment, interdepartmental coordination, hiring, firing and employee growth. In addition to performing management duties, this position will also contribute to the implementation of several subsystems of the Turbine Engine and take a leadership role in driving the technical designs for new development efforts.
Candidates must be comfortable working in a professional work environment and be capable of working closely with employees, peers and managers in high pressure situations. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to discuss technical issues with both engineers and non-technical people such as producers, artists and designers. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise and passion in the field of video games and video game technology and will possess an understanding of the principles of software architecture and software engineering processes.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the development of Turbine’s MMOG Engine<
• Develop and maintain schedules
• Mentor employees and provide training and growth opportunities
• Hold regular one-on-one and team meetings
• Handle hiring, firing, reviews, and other personnel management responsibilities
• Work with the Technical Lead to drive the technical design of robust and scalable engine subsystems to meet the needs of Turbine’s MMOG titles
• Work with QA to develop test plans to verify the ongoing functionality and performance of engine subsystems
• Identify, track, and manage areas of technical risk
• Serve as a liaison between the engine team and game development teams
• Contribute to and enforce Turbine’s engineering standards and processes
• Develop and maintain game engine systems as needed
• Debug and fix engine level bugs arising during product development and testing
• Document systems thoroughly, both in terms of design and implementation
• Maintain significant familiarity within engineering domain</p>
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the manager</p>
Requirements:
• At least 5 years experience in the games industry focused on software development
• 3 or more years as a Senior Software Engineer
• Previous experience as a Lead Software Engineer or a similar leadership role responsible for planning and coordinating the deliverables of a software engineering team
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• High proficiency with C with a strong OOP background
• Familiarity with STL, SQL, TCP, UDP
• Experience using Perforce or other source control processes
• A passion for games and game technology
Pluses:
• Massively multiplayer game development experience
• Prior experience in game engine development
• Prior experience building a technology SDK
• Experience with DirectX, Havok, Granny, Maya, Perl
• Bachelors or Graduate degree in computer science
• Console development experience
